Ahh the holidays… the time of year when Internet marketers show their gratitude by giving away free gifts.
Yet, if you are on a few lists, as I am, you may be seeing a ‘trend’ that I am finding a bad PR move by many.
It’s the ‘Happy Holidays. Here’s your gift: a discount to my XXX.’
Let me be clear here. That’s a discount, not a gift. A gift is free. And for most people it means it’s given from the heart. It’s not given to make money.
This type of ‘marketing’ can backfire. The gift bait and switch will only tick off potential customers. And with social media being so popular to air complaints publicly, a marketer could find themselves in a firestorm online – one where them may not be able to fix.
Once you get a bad reputation, it’s hard to fix it. So why not be nice this season (vs. naughty) and give to get this holiday season to avoid it all together?
Speaking of free gifts, here’s just one of mine for the holiday season: a recorded webcast of my Virtual Cookie Exchange with Michele PW, Therese Skelly and Shawn Driscoll. This webcast shared tips and ideas to build your business. And it’s completely FREE! Visit: http://www.AttendThisEvent.com/?eventid=10084944 to access the recording.
