We hear it all the time this time of year.
“I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus”
But did you know that song originated as part of a marketing package?
You see, back in 1952, the department store was more than a little jealous of their competitor’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade, which got thousands of people in their competitor’s doors for the 4th quarter holiday spending.
So they beefed up their annual Christmas card/ book (aka catalog), to create a song to go with it. And the rest, as they say, is history.
No one can remember what the original card design looked like. (Yup, I Googled it and can’t find it!) But I bet you know the words to that song.
When you are marketing, think outside the box once and a while… you’ll never know what will become a hit!
And just to inspire you, here’s my favorite version of the song… from the Jackson 5.
