I was speaking on stage at an event when a woman asked me a question about her target market. It seemed to her they were quite unresponsive to her offers.
I asked her if she thought her target audience was appropriate for her services as a manifestation goddess. (Her words, not mine… they were even on her business card!)
She replied, yes, millionaires need to manifest too.
Even though I was skeptical, I asked her one more question, “This will sound rude, but is this what you typically look like when you approach a millionaire about your services?”
She was flabbergasted at the idea. “What does how I look like have anything to do with me getting more business?”
You see, she was a mess: a worn sweater, stretch pants, and two inches of gray roots showing in her dyed hair.
I’m not the fashion police, but that’s the only target market she would attract looking like that!
If you want to be a professional in your field, you have to look like one. Of course, I’m not saying you need to where a suit every day. But you need to look the part: spiffy clothes, nicely done hair, and wear a smile too!
It all plays in building your credibility.
Which reminds me… I need to get my hair cut.
