Who hasn’t ever entered a contest? Everybody enjoys the feeling of winning a prize – so why not try running a contest on your website or through your ezine and emails to get your prospects to enter for a chance to win?
And the best part? If done correctly, you’ll be a winner too -with a big opt-in list! Simply, ask your visitor to provide you their name and email for a opportunity to win. An autoresponder can transmit a confirmation email back to them saying that they are in the running to win the prize.
Consider these ideas for your contest, depending on what’s relevant to your business.
1) Use the ‘old school’ technique: an essay contest. Give contest participants a precise word limit and tell them that the selected ones will be published in your ezine, as well as give them an additional prize. Who doesn’t like to see their name in print and get some much needed-publicity?
The key is to give them a limited time within which they should submit it, with guidelines as to what is acceptable. Make it clear it will become your property. That way, you can also use the essays as part of an ebook or special report later on!
2) Create an online video contest that relates to your theme. Think of it as an essay contest, but using visuals, so use the same guidelines.
3) Build a social media buzz contest. Ask contesants to retweet a specific message on Twitter after joining your contest list. Every time they do, they get an entry to win.
Keep the entry free for your contests, but be certain to get the name and contact email ahead of they enter. Consider posting to the online contest directories as well to get more people to enter and increase your exposure.
Don’t forget the prize!
Select a prize that’s valuable to your prospect. If you already have some products or services that people pay for, you can offer one or more for free. For example, a program or ebook or private coaching can all be considered of value. If you have premium paid memberships, offer your winners the same for free.
When you’ve settled on the contest details, come up with a catchy name for it and start promoting.
