Marketing can be one of the biggest money drains on a business budget and the bad news is there’s rarely enough money to cover all of the marketing expenses you need or want. But, the good news is that there are a few reliable ways to stretch your marketing budget and make it work harder for you without spending any extra money.
Everything Can Be Re-purposed
Content can be easily re-purposed into another form. Say you have a blog series that is particular useful. Re-purpose them into a special report or use them as the basis for an e-book. You could also use it to create a video or audio tutorial.
Think about the stock photos you buy. Don’t just use them once and then let them collect dust on your desktop. Get the most bang for your buck by using them in various ways such as any type of ad, pinnable image, blog graphic, etc.
Another example is hiring someone to create an ad for you that you publish in periodicals or on specifically chosen websites. Since you’ve purchased the copy and the graphic why not use this same ad to reach people via email and direct mail. You could scan it into your computer and include it as part of your email signature. Or even have it printed on post cards to hand out at your next speaking event.
With each marketing tactic, consider how you can re-purpose it and use it in other valuable ways.
Do It Yourself
When you just can’t fit something into your budget, you can always do it yourself. So many aspects of marketing can be awfully expensive so if there is something you can take on and do yourself, go for it!
For example stock photos can cost a company hundreds to thousands of dollars a year, but there’s no reason you can’t take photos yourself for free. You could write your own PPC advertisements and email marketing messages. You get the gist, whatever you are capable of taking on to save some money do it.
Of course, it may take you a little time to perfect your craft, however you know your audience and you know how to communicate with them.
Outsource to Freelancers
Outsourcing is awesome! You can either hire a company or go for a freelancer or virtual assistant. I prefer freelancers and VAs because most marketing companies tend to cost much more for the same work. It can take more time to screen freelancers to find a qualified one, however you can save a significant amount of money by finding hidden talent on a freelance job site. Fivrr is a great source for good quality work for not much money.
Lastly, be sure to track and test all marketing that you do. This will help you pinpoint what works, and also help you not be afraid to cut the rest loose. Only spend your energy, money and time on proven tactics. Of course, you’ll need to continue to try new things but start them slowly, use them in limited amounts and keep tight control on the results. Following these tips will ensure you’re spending your marketing budget wisely.
