When you make targeted connections, you have the potential to make each one a profitable one. Yet, so many of us know how easy it is to get caught up in the numbers game. People often find they spend their time striving to get more customers, prospects, subscribers and followers without paying attention to the quality of those relationships.
But the key to turning prospects into customers or great referral sources is to show that they are appreciated. Think about it for a moment…
Step One: Imagine Your Life without Them
The first step to not taking your customers, prospects, and everyone associated with your business for granted is to imagine your life without them. Take a look at your customer list. How would your life be without those customers? How would you pay your bills? How would you take vacations? How would you enjoy the same quality of life without your existing customers?
Now take a look at your prospect list, your subscribers, and your social media followers. Imagine your life without these people. They represent the potential to boost your existing income. Without them you would stay exactly where you are right now, and every single customer that you lost would not be replaced. This realization is the first step to not taking your business connections for granted.
Step Two: Assess Your Current Activities
The next step is to take a look at what you’re doing right now. How are you showing your gratitude? Create a spreadsheet and break it up into the following segments: customers, subscribers, and social media followers. Document each tactic that you do on a consistent basis that lets them know that you don’t take them for granted. For example, you may post industry news to your Facebook page twice a week. Once you’ve completed this step, you may quickly realize that you’re not doing enough.
Step Three: Create a Plan to Do Better
The next step is actually an easy one; it’s brainstorming ways to show your business connections that you do appreciate them.
Brainstorm ways that you can show your connections gratitude. Don’t worry about whether it’s logistically realistic at the moment; just use this as a brainstorming session.
For example, I have set up a way to reward people who comment on my blog with free training, above and beyond what they read on the blog. (Try it by leaving a comment to see how this works!)
What can you get started with today? How can you create a plan to consistently show them how much you appreciate them?
And don’t forget to take action. Once you’ve created that plan, start taking action immediately. Commit to your customers, prospects, and social media followers. For example, if you’re going to give your customers a free information product on monthly basis, tell them that you’re going to do it and let them know when to expect the first report. Then follow through on your promise. That follow through is an invaluable way to earn their trust, respect and their repeat business.
You know that customers and subscribers are the lifeblood of your business. Take real steps right now, today, to begin to appreciate your customers and show them how much they mean to you.
And don’t forget to leave a comment to get a great reward!
