But when you think outside the box, you’ll open up your eyes to a variety of opportunities – many of them you’re already doing as part of your business – that can land you corporate sponsorships.
Take me, for example; I’ve never done a live event, nor do I plan to have one in the near future. However, with a little creative thinking, I’ve earned more than $20,000 in sponsorships in the past. In addition, I’m already working on the future (and it looks like 2011 will see double that amount in sponsorships).
Here are just a few of the many ideas you can use to get underwritten:
- Virtual events: virtual events are probably the most obvious choice after a live event. Teleseminars, webinars and telesummits can all have sponsorship opportunities
- Speaker: Any time you present, you, in essence, have created an event, which can make a company jump to say yes to sponsor you.
- Going to a live event: Companies not only pay sponsorships for high-profile people at live events, but for people just to attend an event as a regular ‘Joe.’ You see, companies knows that relationships and networking play a big part in building buzz, so they often will underwrite a few people to attend a live event as their ambassador.
- Marketing you’re already doing: When you make a good connection with a company, they can be willing to sponsor just about any marketing you’re already doing, including ezines, webcasts/podcasts, a book, social media, websites, blogs and more.
Essentially, if you can get your message out there to a specific target market in any format, there’s a potential sponsorship waiting for you!
