I hear it a lot: press releases are a waste of time. And nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, chances are you’re leaving money on the table, if you leave them off your marketing to-do list.
A recent study, by iProspect, shows two-thirds (67%) of online searches are driven from an offline channel. Of those searches, 39% of the offline-influenced searches ultimately make a purchase from the company which prompted their initial search. This study stresses the fact, while your business may be 100% online, your marketing should not be.
And that’s where press releases come in. Unlike advertising, press releases are free to use; they just take your time. Let’s take a look at some facts for press releases and why they are important to your business.
Half the Work, Twice the Coverage
The great thing about press releases is when you write one, you can post it online for increasing traffic and send it to the media to increase your visibility and credibility. So one press release covers both online and offline for the best bang for your buck.
Offline Begets Online
The most impressive point about the iProspect study is not the fact of how many purchases are made, but more than two-thirds of online searches come from offline interest. If you are not getting press releases out to the media for coverage, you are missing out on two-thirds of your online traffic. Imagine tripling your traffic over a year. How much impact does that have on your business?
What Are You Missing?
If you are not generating press releases, along with other offline content, you will be missing out on almost 1/7th of your revenue. Unfortunately, this money does not sit on the table until you pick it up. In fact, it goes to your competitor who is working the press release angle on a consistent basis.
