Why do you have a blog?
If you are in business, there really is only one reason: to increase your profits.
Sure, a blog helps with visibility and credibility. And it also can give you a space to share your thoughts and opinions.
Blogging should be looked at as a marketing tool. Although becoming a successful blogger doesn’t happen overnight, if you follow the right method you’ll start to see results that tell you you’re on the right track relatively quickly.
Here are some tips to help:
1) Post regularly.
If you want to generate a following (and that’s the first step in making your blog profitable), you need to keep blog often.
How many times have you looked at a blog and see it hasn’t been updated in months. As a reader, you wonder what happened… and probably won’t return any time soon.
Many people feel this inhibits the ‘writer’s inspiration’ or ‘muse.’ If that’s the case it’s time to develop the self-discipline necessary to write consistently and learn to write when content needs to be created. (Remember, the goal is to make your blog profitable!)
2) Get interactions.
The bottom line is this: bloggers who don’t respond to these comments will alienate their readers and lose followers.
People who are commenting are most likely the ones to become your raving fans and buy from you. Grow your relationship with them.
3) Hang out.
To get more interactions on your blog, you need to give more interactions on other blogs and forums.
Share your tips and tactics in other places. If acceptable (be aware every blog/forum has different rules about this), share a link to an appropriate blog post. Appropriate means it will add to the conversation, not just promote yourself.
This will bring audience members to your blog, and assuming your content is good they’ll keep coming back.
4) Include calls to action.
It’s the biggest mistake made in blogging: not putting a call to action on every post.
The last thing you want is to read your post then say, “Ok… that was nice. Now what?” If you don’t tell them what to do next, they most likely will disappear and never be seen again.
Calls to action may include:
- inviting them to comment on the post
- asking them to share your post in their social media circles
- giving them a heads up on other content they may be interested in
- getting them to find out more about a product or service you have to offer
Whatever you do, do not miss this step. The more you train your readers to do what you ask, when you are ready to ask for a sale, they are more amenable to do so.
