Many of you know that my daughters have Autism. That, combined with a cross-country move just a few months ago, has made things very emotional and problematic for my girls.
So much so that I have worked less hours per week than I ever have before since I began my business. And let me be frank here: even though many of those free hours were spent helping my children adjust to such a major change, I am taking more time off for my mental and physical health as well.
I’m involved in a few masterminds and groups where people are complaining they can’t get their work done because so many other things are going on.
Look, life happens. And it’s most likely why we created our businesses. We dreamed of a business making money yet spending time on our lives. (Okay, maybe not all the quirks my life faces… but it is about the freedom of creating a business that works for you!)
So why all the complaints about not getting business done?
Because they don’t have a plan and systems in place to make business happen with or without them being present.
No one should be struggling to balance business and life. I don’t worry about my business, when I can’t work or don’t feel like working. I still make money nearly every day and that is due to taking time to plan and using systems efficiently.
Let me tell you a story that moves me to this day to keep my planning and systems in place, even though I sometimes want to ditch it.
When the girls were in kindergarten, their class planned a Mother’s Day tea for all the moms and female guardians, as many classes do. I was the only mom who could come because I didn’t have to worry about ‘work’. Many of their classmates were crying and upset, understandably. I know it’s a tough choice to make as a parent, and I am not trying to belittle anyone’s choice. However, I decided then and there I never wanted that to happen to my daughters if I could help it.
And that’s why my business runs by planning and systematizing.
I know, systems, on the surface, seem boring. But when you learn the way to plan effectively, you will find the money is in the system – and that is exciting!
The bottom line is this: your brilliance (what you offer others) is the spark, it’s the planning that makes the spark a flame (and profitable)!
