Exposure: it’s what you want when you need increased visibility for your product. And there’s no better way to get it than when celebrity using it.
Whatever you think about them, famous people are role models for many and when the word hits the streets that a one of them uses a given product, many rush out to be just like their favorite icon. This is one of the best publicity tactics in existence; and other than the cost of some sample products, the expense can be minimal.
But how can someone like you, who may not have any celebrity friends, get your product into the hands of the famous?
The easiest way is to get your product including in what’s called a ‘swag bag’. These are given out to attendees at events such as awards ceremonies, charity fundraisers and the like. Famous people are nothing if not trend setters, so if your product can be in those bags, you’ve just scored a major publicity coup for your product.
For some of the biggest events, the costs for being included in a swag bag can be quite high. If this isn’t in your company’s budget, you may want to try for some other related events such as the pre-and post event parties where it is common for gift bags to be distributed. Although many of these events don’t carry the cache of some of the biggies, but they do receive media attention — and so will your product if it’s getting into the hands of famous actors, musicians and other entertainment world movers and shakers.
Try to focus on non-profit and charity events, where many are just happy to get the donation of the products, rather than charge a hefty fee.
Since planning goes on months or even years in advance, it’s essential to start trying to get your products included as soon as possible; so get in on the planning process and get your product noticed and your product could be the next Grey Goose or Maurice LaCroix!
Another way to do it is to simply send the item to the celebrity directly. This works especially well with baby and child related products to a new mom celebrity.
