Writing a sponsorship proposal is easy. Getting them to say “Yes” to sponsor you is the difficult part.
Fortunately, there are some simple tips to remember to increase the chance your proposal will make the selection. Remembering that a sponsorship is supposed to benefit both parties is a great place to start. Once you have that in mind, it is time to get that sponsor to say yes to your proposal.
Help Them First
Before they can help you, they need to make sure you are going to be a good match for their needs. Finding a way to help a sponsor before asking for help shows you are committed to their mission, values and goals. It’s all about building a relationship… allowing them to know, like and trust you.
Finding out this information shows the sponsor that you have taken the time to research the company and understand how they operate, what is important to them and the full gamut of products and services they offer. In Lesson 2 of the Sponsorship Made Simple Academy, I share several ways to research a potential and even find out what will make them say yes to a potential sponsorship.
Don’t Be A Suck-Up
Sponsors have enough people kissing their rear every day. The last thing they want is one more to add to the mix. They already know how great they are, they want to see how well you will blend with them. Sucking up doesn’t answer any of their questions about why they should sponsor YOU.
Offer Them What They Want
You already found out what your sponsor is looking for when you did your research. Now it is time to give it to them. If they need to make their marketing dollar stretch, then show them why sponsoring you, and more importantly, your list, would be the best idea. If they are looking for a write-off, then show how your project matches closely with past projects they have sponsored.
The most difficult part of getting sponsored is getting the sponsor to say yes. Once you have researched them, been honest with them and offered them what they want, as long as you followed the rules when submitting your proposal, there is no reason they should say no.
