If you’ve been using tons of marketing tactics and still not getting all the clients you want, you may need to declutter your marketing and get organized.
I know you didn’t mean to get so cluttered in your marketing, but like most coaches and consultants, you start marketing a certain way… adding more tactics as you grow and as new methods warrant, and what ends up happening is a scattered method which brings in less results as you go on.
None of it is organized, integrated, or on any type of plan. It’s time to streamline. Here’s how:
What tactics are you using?
Make a list of all of the marketing tactics you have implemented or tried in the past year. For example, maybe you send out weekly emails and your email marketing is on track but you’ve only tweeted twice in the past three months despite your amazing Twitter Profile page. Make notes next to each tactic.
- Your goals for that tactic – what is it supposed to do? For example, Facebook posts may be designed to drive traffic to your free download.
- The last time you used the tactic. For example, when was the last time you posted on your Facebook page?
- Your analytics. How effective are your efforts? Do you know the results?
- Integration. How is the marketing tactic integrated with other tactics? For example, do you have a “share on Facebook” button on your blog posts?
A spreadsheet may be the most useful tool for outlining and identifying all of this information. And if you don’t have answers for some of the questions and tactics that is something to pay attention to. It’s a sign you need to declutter your marketing.
Mak an action plan
The next step is to look at all of the tactics you’re currently using and to create a streamlined action plan. Identify goals, create a schedule for implementing each tactic. For example, I will post new content on Facebook every Monday and Wednesday and spend 10 minutes every lunch break sharing and commenting.
Also establish a system of reviewing the analytics. Once a month is fine. And create a plan to integrate your tactics. Prioritize and schedule based on those priorities. Once you’ve decluttered your marketing, keep it clean by following through on your action plan.
