I know you’ve heard the phrase before…
CONTENT IS KING.
But most people don’t take it to heart. Certainly I didn’t when I first started my public relations and creative marketing firm in Albany, NY.
But once I realized the value of content, I got to work right away and built a site using content that grew from a tiny amount of traffic to lots of traffic.
As a matter of fact, that content led to tons of positive reactions. I can’t tell you how many people I talk to say, “Shannon, you’re everywhere.”
But there was a problem early on. I wasn’t very profitable because I only had part of the puzzle figured out. I understood how good content could generate decent traffic, but I neglected to make that traffic make good money. And when you’re trying to run a business, that can be quite frustrating.
Something definitely had to change and change it did. I spent the next year or so learning how to more strategically create and make my content work for me. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing my strategies with you.

Content marketing is an amazingly powerful strategy and has numerous benefits. Here are just a few:

- It can help create fierce loyalty from your audience.
- It helps generate free word of mouth.
- It’s great search engine fodder.
- It can bring publicity from traditional media to you. ( I can’t tell you how many reporters have contacted me for a quote or expert opinion for an article after seeing my content somewhere online or offline. It’s a pretty cool perk that can bring you more traffic, more credibility and more prospects!)
