It’s National Spring Cleaning Week in the United States – a time where, after months of winter, we open our windows and start to get rid of the dust and things that have accumulated over the colder months.
It’s refreshing to use spring as a way to clear the clutter and start anew in our homes. But have you done the same for your business?
I’m not just talking about your office space. This is way more than just having a clean desk to work on.
I’m talking about your online space – and even that clutter in your head. (And trust me… that clutter in your head is doing you far more damage than you think. It blocks you from seeing opportunities and more importantly, taking action.)
Seriously, it’s good to take stock on what’s working and what’s not in your business. And spring is a great time to do it because many of us have gotten into routine. So we forget about the opportunities we may already have in front of us and instead seek out something new.
Here’s what I want you to do to start cleaning out your business: think of your business as your wardrobe in your closet. Just like you would review your spring and summer clothes to see if they still look good and fit well, you should be doing the same with every asset in your business: from domain names to products and even programs you are paying for.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Do they need a little fix or update in order to make them work better?
- Is it so out of date that you should just give it away? (Notice I said give it away not just pitch it? Perhaps someone else could use the information – even if it’s no use to you.)
- What added accessories do you need to pull something from so-so to oh-so-fabulous?
It’s time to take back control of your business. Of course, that might be easier said than done. You’re probably so busy and constantly working on a zillion projects that it seems impossible to slow down and figure out how to do that.
But here’s the thing: If you keep following the course you’re on now, where a single problem could seriously disrupt your business, you’re headed for disastrous business burnout.
Instead, over the next couple of weeks, I’d like to show you that taking just a few hours each week will help you take back control of your business and set you up for long-term profits in your more stable business.
