As the Be Heard Day celebration goes into its final days, I’ve been seeing a strange phenomenon occurring – one that has never happened to the magnitude in past years as I’ve seen this year.
People are signing up to get the free Be Heard Day goodies at http://www.beheardday.com and as soon as they get their link to the page to get all the marketing and publicity reports, press releases and audios, they unsubscribe.
I saw it only happen a few times last year. This year, more than 75 people have done it.
It doesn’t bother me, because as a result of this promotion I’ve gotten hundreds and hundreds of new people on my list.
Ok… it does bother me a little. It’s a bit rude. It’s basically smash and grab. And it feels like I’ve been used.
It’s important, however, to make it easy for people to opt-out. So I will get over that.
But there’s more that bothers me about this.
I asked one person who I know why she did this for the Be Heard Day giveaway. (And believe me I WAS surprised that someone I know personally would be so… well, rude!) She was kind enough to answer, however.
She said that she basically was overwhelmed with all the information and email she gets. She also reminded me that she was a solo entrepreneur and could only digest so much info, so being on an email list with more to read would only overwhelm her and distract her more from what she needs to do in her business.
But if that’s your excuse as well, let me make a prediction:
You will not use any of the free Be Heard Day stuff you got when you ‘smashed and grabbed’ it.
If you are that overwhelmed to opt-in then immediately opt-out again, you don’t have time to read or use any of the marketing and publicity materials. And I’ll bet you that you already have a ton of information about the Be Heard Day topics already that you’ve never used. Some you got for free… some you’ve paid for.
It’s sitting there, doing nothing but adding to your overwhelm.
And here’s the funny thing:
Every person who signed up for the Be Heard Day giveaway is on a list with an autoresponder that goes out the 5th day. (Yes, there’s only one autoresponder.) In it, I give away an unadvertised (well, I guess it is now!) report on how to effectively get out over the overwhelm and start using all the great Be Heard Day goodies.
