Marketing your business during the summer months can be difficult because just about every other business in your industry will be trying to market and sell as well. Instead of doing the same ole’ thing and trying to market louder than your competitors, do something that stands out.
Here’s a Few Ideas to Get You Going:
Amp Up Your Affiliate Program
Affiliate marketing can boost your business dramatically during the summer season. So, if you have a program, promote it and if you don’t have one, think about creating one.
If you have affiliates within your program that used to be active but aren’t really pushing your products, you will want to contact them to promote your products again. Ask them to step it up and reward them for doing so.
Talk about your increased conversion rates. If they were getting a 2% conversion rate in the past, let them know they can easily expect to double or triple that during the holiday season.
Be sure to provide useful tools for them to promote your products. Many affiliates don’t want to put the effort into promoting products that don’t have adequate tools and resources to make it easy for them to do so.
Get your affiliates excited about how much they could earn by promoting you during the summer months.
Create a Cool Campaign
Macy’s first pioneered this idea by tapping into a simple campaign that brought shoppers out in droves. Their campaign involved encouraging kids to bring in their letters for Santa. For every letter that’s brought in, $1 was donated to the Make a Wish foundation. To date, Macy’s has donated over $4 million as a result of this campaign.
There are so many ways to customize a campaign like this for your own business. Give it a “summer camp” twist and try a “I love summer vacation” essay contest. First, you can publish the best letters for more publicity and later you can talk about the wishes that your money has helped fulfill. You will get a lot of publicity for doing something like this.
Blantant copying of Macy’s campaign isn’t a good idea. But you can use specific elements of their campaign (the letter, getting kids/parents involved, donating a small amount, etc.) to make your own successful campaign.
Social media comes alive during the summer season and you’d be well served to jump on that bandwagon. However, it’s rare that people will share information about products or sales. Everyone is getting bombarded by sales and the last thing that people are going to do is try and sell their own friends on products.
How can you take advantage of all this activity, without being another “me too” seller? The answer is by creating a unique, viral social media campaign.
The campaign might be a viral video, a contest where someone will win a nice prize, or an original event that people participate in in person.
The most important thing is that the campaign itself is unique and surprising. Brainstorm ideas until you come up with something that truly blows people away.
You have to be seen during the summer months and what better way than to be different. These 3 ideas will help you be recognized and get more sales when the hot days of summer arrive!
